Summary

There is currently no reason to go to a lower security space to harvest a particular ore, and the ores that are present do not present an even solution for miners interested in their take (the new player industrial arc needing zydrine, for instance). This concept aims to revolutionize this by making all ores available in all regions of space, in varying degrees.

The concept I have set up is a sort of waypoint, allowing the developers to change the numbers and areas of accessibility. It’s entirely feasible that the non-NPC Pirate regions (1.0 and 0.9) would continue to only have Veldspar/Scordite/Plagioclase/Nocxium.

Solutions

I envision something like the following chart to be used for these distributions, but the numbers are only placholders and CCP’s QA team will have to do more research regarding the exact percentages.

High-grade Low-grade
Grade Yield Grade Yield
Exquisite 200% Poor 95%
Radiant 185% Diluted 90%
Glittering 170% Thin 85%
Elegant 155% Dirty 75%
Pure 145% Soft 50%
Shining 135% Weak 25%
Pristine 125% Tainted 10%
Vivid 115% Faint 5%
Clean 110% Polluted 2%
Fine 105% Contaminated 1%

To give a comparative example, Veldspar would be available in 0.0 as Exquisite or Radiant, giving a massive boost to mining it there. Arkanor would be available to 0.8 space as Polluted or Faint, giving a very weak turnout on the minerals. Jaspet (available in 0.4 space) would be available as Pure in 0.0, or Thin in 0.8.

While this idea doesn’t give many debatable options about the layout, the pros and cons are outlined below.

  • Allow all ores to be spread out in all areas of space, in varying qualities of refinement.
    • Pros
      • Enhances the appeal of low-security space, encouraging mining corps to set up massive ops to the systems in an attempt to control them.
      • Allows miners to gather the materials for their ships regardless of security level, at a significant hit to profitability.
      • Increases profitability of some 0.0 mining, allowing the gathering of minerals for their capital projects in their respective regions.
    • Cons
      • Requires a re-tooling of the asteroid system as we know it.
      • Prices may fluctuate at the start due to the sudden availability of minerals.
